IPM School of Astronomy
and the Iranian National Observatory (INO) announce a symposium
on "Mid-Sized Telescopes:
Science
and Instrumentation" in Kish
Island in Persian Gulf, December 20-21, 2010.
The aim of the symposium is to discuss front-line science
return from the mid-sized telescopes, including new and innovative
instrumentation and effective operation for such telescopes. The symposium will
address the question as what the observatories need to do with the current
mid-sized telescopes when the extremely large telescopes start their operation.
Topics include: science objectives, innovative instrumentation, surveys and
observatory operations.
The meeting is organized by IPM School of Astronomy and the
Iranian National Observatory project which aims at a construction of a 3.4m
optical telescope currently being designed.
