School of Astronomy (SoA) - Weekly Seminar

Simulation of pixel lensing of M87 by HST

Sedighe Sajadian (Sharif Univ. of Tech.)

Abstract:

In this lecture the pixel lensing method will be reviewed. Also i will expian a new strategy for detecting high magnification
events towards Virgo cluster. By Performing Monte-Carlo simulation we show that with a few days of intense observation with taking one image per one HST orbit the number of events increases more than one order of magnitude comparison with earlier observation(Baltz et al 2004). We show that in addition to the detection of the compact objects, the proposed strategy will enable us to detect possible non-baryonic small dark halos.
